DEATH BY TROPE

Ever since antiquity, horror stories have captivated and frightened audiences (much to their enjoyment). However, despite its popularity, mainstream horror media has often shut out those who enjoy it most - BIPOC and female audiences. Despite these demographics consuming more than 50% of horror media, their representation is often limited to one-dimensional or non-existent characters.

DEATH BY TROPE: Gender & Race in Horror is a conceptual conference that seeks to elevate these audiences through TED-style talks by keynote speakers, panels consisting of those in the horror industry, and film screenings. We welcome guest of all genders, races, and cultures to help illuminate our conversations and contribute to our mission.

For this semester-long project, I built the identity of DBT from the ground up. Starting with a creative brief that outlined my objective for the project, I honed in on my target audience and created an identity system based on classic horror films, especially those from the slasher genre.

After designing the color palette, logo, and other brand elements, I created brand applications. This includes collectible postcards, an event brochure, event badges, and two figurines based on the Nendoroid series by GoodSmile Company.
